2023 Final Rounds

What is 3MT?

The 3MT is an important international competition that aims at celebrating research conducted by doctoral and masters students. According to the University of Queensland, founder of the event, the 3MT “cultivates students’ academic, presentation, and research communication skills”.

Participants have three minutes and a single static slide to effectively explain their research in a language that is appropriate to a non-specialist audience.

Why participate?

Participating in the 3MT can be a way for you to develop important communication and research skills, and to participate in the building of research culture at Michigan Tech. Cash prizes are also available to the top competitors and the people’s choice.

In addition the winners of the local 3MT competition are given a chance to represent Michigan Tech at the next level of competition, and potentially even national and international 3MT competitions, which provides an excellent networking and
professional development opportunity.

Participant Training

GSG is organizing a training session to give participants the opportunity to practice their presentations and receive feedback from other participants and mentors. This training session will be a great time for participants to get feedback on what aspects of their presentations may be overly technical, and what can be done to improve their
presentation for the event.

Poster Printing

GSG is offering services to graduate students to print posters for conferences. Each graduate student can request one poster printing each GSG session (May 1st to April 30th) to present at an academic conference. Please allow at least one week for your poster to be printed.
During university holidays, and GSG research events, or if a large number of poster prints are requested it may take longer for your poster to be printed. Once your poster is printed you will receive email notification.
Posters will need to be trimmed to final size after pickup.
For more printing options, or shorter turn around please see the library’s print services. If you have any questions, please contact the research chair at gsg-research@mtu.edu.
